Blackmarket Corn

A recent trip to the corner with my "Sacred Day" buddy yielded a greater return than just good time with a good friend. After opening an account for online banking, I rode with Stacey to the corner gas station where a middle-aged man and his daughter were selling corn out the back of a pickup truck. As she was bragging to her husband over the cell phone about our sweet corn find, I couldn't help think of all the times I've bought produce from strangers at a gas station or on the side of an old highway. Rather strange, yet acceptable behavior around here--I love Oklahoma! Over time, I've come to refer to these items as blackmarket produce. But pickup truck or not, our purchases are more often than not fresher, tastier, and cheaper than Wal-Mart. Of course, when you buy as much corn as we did (the picture here only shows a portion of our buy), you'll have it coming out your ears . . . pun intended.

I have a question....should the worms have been black since it was "blackmarket" corn? I don't know about your's, but mine were green and I did find a brown one with stripes. The brown one decided I must be a part of the ear of corn and tried to eat my finger when I plucked him off! I guess blackmarket purchases come with their own set of dangers!
