You're My Brown-Eyed Girl

In the work that I'm in (social worker at a children's home), I get to know alot of kids whose fathers have not been a present figure in their lives. Whether it be due to drug addiction, estrangement, imprisonment, death, or divorce, the one who God designed to protect and preserve the family is not there. Without a doubt, I thank the Lord that our situation is different. I am thankful that Mike loves like he does and is committed to his family like he is.

Without this sounding too much like a Father's Day tribute, I do want to reflect on some of the things that make him stand out in my mind as a true "Daddy" for our little girl. Some days before heading off to work (and as I'm getting ready) I can hear him playing peek-a-boo and games of hide and seek with McKenna. He's calling her name, and she's squeeling and crawling just as fast as she can, head moving left to right in excitement. He wakes up early on Saturday mornings to take care of his little girl so mom can catch a few extra winks, and every time he walks into the room it seems as though all her attention is focused on him--at least until he locks eyes with her and gives her a smile. She's soon to reciprocate. And I would be remiss if I failed to mention their baby-scaled pillow fights, baby fetch/chase, and Mike's ever-popular "beaver bite."

Without question, I look forward to the adventures to come, and I have confidence that Mike will continue to paint for McKenna a clear picture of a father's love . . . and of THE Father's love.

How nice! Every girl with a loving involved father is SO blessed. Great job Mike.
